From the 10th to 17th July all roads will lead to St Andrews as it plays host to The 150th Open Championship. Always a fantastic spectacle, but this year more than ever as the home of golf welcomes The Open. Demand for tickets will be high. With this in mind, the Royal & Ancient (R&A) has balloted tickets with spectator numbers on the course restricted to around 30,000 a day, meaning over 150,000 golf enthusiasts will access to the course during the week long event.
Elie is a 20 minute drive from St. Andrews and holiday homes are filling up fast. Golfers and spectators alike will come to Elie and enjoy a walk on the beach, a drink in The Ship Inn, or maybe even a swim in the sea to unwind from a long day watching the worlds best golfers jostling for the honour of being crowned The Open Champion and lifting the Claret jug.
Elie Escapes has a number of additional properties available for the week of The Open, which are available from 5 to 10 days for those lucky enough to have tickets.
10 Wadeslea, situated behind The Ship Inn, is a fantastic holiday home all on one level. With a king, double and bunk bedroom with additional pull-out trundle bed, the house can sleep up to 7. A full bathroom with shower and a second separate WC, plus gorgeous open plan living dining kitchen makes this house a perfect bolthole. The property also benefits from a driveway for off-road parking for 3 cars, plus an enclosed garden with outside table and chairs.
Colombo House, Kirkpark Road is located less than a minutes walk to the Elie Deli and Newsagent, yet is situated on a quiet road and enjoys great spaces both inside and out. It benefits from 4 large bedrooms (two ensuite), a fantastic open plan kitchen/dining/living area with patio doors onto the large enclosed garden with outdoor dining and gas bbq. With the added benefit of an additional two living rooms – one with a large sofa bed, utility room, downstairs wet room and off-road parking, Colombo House really is ideal for a group wishing space to relax and unwind after a long day in St Andrews. The house can sleep up to 10 adults.
The Dairy, Elie, is located near the beach and has fantastic spaces spread over three floors. The ground level benefits from an open plan kitchen/dining/living room with a fabulous dining table, a cosy sitting room with tv, utility room and downstairs cloakroom. The second floor has 4 bedrooms – 2 king size, 1 with ensuite shower-room, a bunk room with 3 large adult built-in bunk beds and a twin room. A bathroom and separate shower are also located on the second floor. On the top floor is a great chill out space with tv, beanbags and games console. A lovely garden benefits from evening sunshine with outdoor furniture and bbq. The Dairy has off-road parking for one large, or two small cars. The Dairy can sleep 10/12.
Elie is served by two public buses, the X60 and 95, both take you to the centre of St. Andrews if car parking is restricted. From St. Andrews bus station the links is an easy 10 minute walk.
Our advice is to book early as we all embrace the magical week of the 150th Open Championship.
